The story of Bethel-Hosanna African Methodist Episcopal Church is a testimony to God’s faithfulness, woven from the rich histories of two congregations—Bethel AME Church of Pennsauken and Hosanna AME Church of Camden. Each carried its own unique legacy of faith, service, and resilience, until God brought them together as one family united in mission.
Bethel’s roots reach deep into the 19th century in the African American settlement known as Jordantown, a close-knit community in present-day Pennsauken. During the era of the Underground Railroad, Jordantown served as a refuge for freedom seekers, and Bethel’s early congregation stood as a beacon of hope and sanctuary.
In 1926, the congregation erected its historic sanctuary—today recognized as the oldest church building in Pennsauken. Over the decades, nearly 47 pastors have shepherded the flock, fostering spiritual growth, community outreach, and steadfast devotion to the AME tradition.
Hosanna AME Church emerged as a spiritual anchor in East Camden, located prominently along Saunders Street. For decades, Hosanna offered worship, fellowship, and vital community ministry in one of Camden’s most historic African American neighborhoods.
Known for its commitment to both spiritual renewal and social responsibility, Hosanna was more than a church building—it was a hub of hope, neighborly care, and resilience for the people of Camden.
In October 2017, Bethel AME (Pennsauken) and Hosanna AME (Camden) united to form Bethel-Hosanna AME Church. This Spirit-led union brought together their spiritual legacies, leadership, and resources into one vibrant congregation equipped for broader ministry impact.
Following the merger, Bethel-Hosanna worshiped at 8216 Park Avenue in Pennsauken. As the ministry grew, God opened the way for a new Worship & Ministry Center at 3465 Haddonfield Road. On December 31, 2023, the congregation held its final service at Park Avenue and that very evening entered the new facility, ushering in the New Year with praise and expectation.
From Jordantown’s role in the fight for freedom to Hosanna’s steadfast presence in East Camden, from two separate congregations to one united body, the history of Bethel-Hosanna AME Church is a living witness to God’s providence. We honor the saints who paved the way, rejoice in the blessings of today, and step boldly into the future, trusting the same God who brought us this far to lead us on.

We are a bible-based church that believes in Jesus Christ as the risen Lord and Savior.
Our vision statement guides us to:
"Make Disciples of Christ, Build and strengthen families, and Impact our community".
Our church’s theme since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic has been: "A D.R.E.A.M. Church"
Its scriptural basis is Joshua 3:4
“...You have never before been where we are going now..." (TLB)
The acronym "D.R.E.A.M." describes our commitment to God, our cummunity, and each other during this COVID-19 Pandemic. Especially during this trying time, we are focused on Bethel-Hosanna being a "Determined - Re-imagined - Engaged - Active - Ministry"
